Land of Hop and Glory: American Craft Beer
Craft beer is a term we've all come to associate with great beer, made by passionate people on a small scale. Craft beer has come to mean supporting your local breweries and drinking widely, diversely but perhaps most importantly, naively.
At Drygate we believe that no one knows everything about beer. We believe that in a world where new breweries, styles and opinions are popping up every day. We want to talk to you about beer. Do you want to know the difference between a Pale Ale and an India Pale Ale, between a dunkel and a dubbel, between a German weissbier and a Belgian witbier?
Every month at Drygate we will be holding The Vintage Beer Club. One of the craft beer aficionados from behind our bars will be hosting a tasting in our bar and taking through the beer style jungle. Every month will be of a different theme; the history and stories behind the styles will be discussed and examples of the styles will be tasted, critiqued and evaluated amongst friends.
The craft beer scene in America has impacted massively on the beer drinking habits of the entire World. Left in the wake of Prohibition and squashed by monolithic lager breweries the improbable happened. The likes of San Francisco's Anchor Brewing Company and California's Sierra Nevada paved the way for full flavoured, fresh hopped beer, changing the American palate forever. Sean, one of our resident hopheads, will guide you through the history and intricacies of the American craft beer revolution.
