Night Owl Easter Sunday Special

Night Owl is coming to Drygate this Easter Sunday! Jamo Kidd and Beans (aka Chris Geddes) will be on the decks for the evening

Beans (aka Chris Geddes) is the keyboard player in Belle and Sebastian. As well as keyboards (such as Hammond organ, Wurlitzer piano and numerous analogue synthesisers) he has spent the last twenty years amassing an equally diverse vinyl collection and DJing all round the world. Northern soul and funk 45s, 60s garage and psych, jazz, soundtracks, Bollywood, Tropicalia, dub, freak folk, radiophonic electronics and krautrock can all find their way into his sets. He showcased some of favourites of these when compiling the band’s two volumes in the acclaimed DJ mix series “Late Night Tales

At home in Glasgow he has guested at many of the established retro nights such as the long running Divine, mod Night Friday Street, and the Doublesight Psych weekend. As part of the Finders Keepers Records affiliated B-Music collective he’s spun esoteric discs from the four corners of the globe alongside fellow travellers Andy Votel, David Holmes, Bob Stanley and Dom Thomas at festivals in the UK and Europe, and with band mates Bob and Richard has been a frequent guest at Barcelona’s celebrated super-club Razzmatazz.

Beans’ current top 5 records:
Lee Moses - Bad Girl (Musicor)
Ruby Andrews “Just Loving You” (Zodiac)
Ernie and the Top Notes Inc “Dap Walk” (Fordom)
Marilyn Barbarin & The Soul Finders - Reborn (Bo-Sound)
Carolyn Crawford - My Smile is Just a Frown (Motown)

Jamo spun at Night Owl at the Berkeley Suite back in July and it’s really exciting to have him back for another set!

From Jamo:
“Since my last time at Night Owl I have been over playing in Dublin at “MindFuzz” and will be off to the Emerald Isle again at the start of March for the legendary “Dr. Crippen’s Waiting Room” in Belfast. I also do my regular spot in the CCA where we had Dean & Sophie of the Night Owl team join us one night to show off their vinyl collection. I’m also one of the resident DJs at Double Sight, the annual 60s Psychedelic Festival in Glasgow and run Common People, a 90s Britpop night at The Flying Duck.

The main focus of my record collection is original 45s from the 1950s through to the early 70s and depending on the club, I can be heard playing anything from early doo wop and rhythm & blues through to proto-punk and psychedelic freak-out from all around the globe. Regardless of the style of music, I always play a blend of classics and rarities with the focus firmly on the dancefloor.

Having spun at Night Owl previously, I have to say it was one of the best crowds I’ve had the pleasure of playing too and I can’t wait to get behind the decks again.”

Jamo’s current top five ‘soul’ spins:
Dick Jacobs - Dance Back to Me (Brunswick)
The Supremes – He’s All I Got (Motown)
BB King – Beautician Blues (Kent)
Lonette McKee – Do to Me (Sussex)
Deidre Wilson Tabac – Get Back (RCA)
