October Beer Update

Share Blog

Hello and welcome to our latest beer update! We’re queuing up a selection of amazing new releases to get you ready for the nuclear winter – sorry, “digital Christmas”.

Launching Today

Crimson Corsair10% PX Barrel-Aged Imperial Red

This imperial red ale has been imprisoned in a Pedro Ximénez sherry barrel for 14 months – and it’s finally time for its daring escape. The name harks back to the buccaneers who might have transported these clandestine barrels across the seas (with a little nod to Star Wars too).

Rich chewy caramel notes come from the malt bill of this beer, which includes Crystal 150 and Carabelge. Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops in the whirlpool impart even more flavour. Finally, Crimson Corsair was locked away in barrel to pick up sweet sherry and warming oaky notes.

The resulting beer is complex with light raisin and currant flavours, while citrus notes make for a light finish. It’s a perfect, warming treat to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Drygate Play the Hits: Volume 112% Imperial Stout with Coffee

We’re launching a new series of beers, paying tribute to the classics of craft – the things we were drinking when we got into the craft beer scene. The beers we just don’t seem to see any more. Like a tribute act, we’re taking inspiration from these beers and paying homage to the original (but with better costumes and without the pun-based band names).

The first in this series will be our cover of Speedway Stout. Speedway is truly one of the best stouts in the world, if not the best - filled with coffee, roasted malt, toffee, and dark berry flavours. We think that our brewers are up to the challenge of taking this iconic stout and putting our own twist on it.

We’ve crammed this stout with dark, toasty malts and a big whack of coffee beans. We can’t wait to hear what you think of it, and how it compares to the original. We’ve got plenty of fantastic concepts queued up for this series, so we’ll keep you up to date as we brew them – but we’d love to hear your ideas for future covers too.

Up Next

405 Cascade + Mosaic2.8% Table Beer

We’re into the fourth iteration of this table beer series, and this time we’re combining two of our favourite hops; Cascade and Mosaic. This duo bring aromas of fresh citrus and ripe berry to the beer. They’re added both in the whirlpool and post-fermentation, imparting layers of flavour.

We’ve had wonderful feedback on our version of this table beer using HBC experimental hops, and we’ll be continuing to create adventurous editions of 405 in future, although this may be our last one for a while – so don’t miss out!

Now available in Supermarkets

Peanut Butter Chocolate7.4% Imperial Stout with Cacao Nibs and Peanut Flavouring (Collaboration with Fierce)

Available in Tesco

We were delighted to work with our friends at Fierce on this stout. It’s the perfect dessert beer, with chocolate and peanut coming out in droves. Rich, warming, and intense, we’re enjoying this beer immensely on these cold autumn evenings.

Muscovado sugar adds depth of toasty warmth, with vanilla and cacao nibs rounding out the flavour. We’re also working to build out the body, and our most recent batch is the richest and fullest in mouthfeel so far. This is 440ml of pure stout joy, available to buy exclusively in Tesco (and soon on our online shop).

Fourteen Peaks7.5% Mountain IPA

Available in Tesco

This doubled-up version of our Seven Peaks Session IPA has even bigger, more intense flavours that are reminiscent of the Scottish outdoors. Weighing in at 7.5% ABV, this is a mountainous beer that makes for a brilliant nightcap.

Mosaic and Cascade are added to the whirlpool, and again during dry-hopping. We also add Ekuanot during the dry-hop to add those all-important juicy stonefruit flavours.

Coco Noco6% Coconut Mocha Milk Stout

Available in Lidl Stores in England

Orinoco is a river of mocha in a can, and Coco Noco adds a wave of coconut flavour into the mix - taking our award-winning stout to the next level, adding to the existing base of vanilla, cacao nibs, coffee, and brown sugar.

This version also comes in a 440ml can, giving you even more to enjoy! It’s a limited release as part of the Lidl Craft Beer Festival, so be fast if you want to try this stout.

Hoppipolla6.7% White IPA

Available in Lidl

This much-loved beer from our Spectrum back catalogue has returned! This super-fresh, spiced white IPA is truly unique. There’s a big hit of coriander, complementing the Summit, Citra and Galaxy hop flavour and the spicy yeast notes. We’ve also added orange peel into the mix, for a twist of zesty character.

The resulting beer is bright and complex. It’s available in Lidl stores around the UK for a short time.

Amber Spyglass5.1% Red IPA

Available in Lidl Stores in Scotland

This beer was originally part of our Spectrum series and an ode to the His Dark Materials trilogy by the unparalleled Philip Pullman. Aromas of caramel, spice, and toffee are dusted with light floral notes, while a creeping dankness evokes a dusky forest floor.

On the palate, flavours of orange rind and chewy toffee, with toasty malt notes add depth and structure, before the long bitter finish rolls in.

We’ll be back again soon to update you with all the lovely new beers and gifts that we’ll be bringing out in time for the festive season. If you want to get into the Christmas spirit early, then you can always make a charitable donation to our staff to help tide them over until our Brasserie reopens.
